Bio

Matthew Meade is a New York City–based composer, lyricist, book writer, performer, and choreographer creating new musical theatre with big comedy, big heart, and an unapologetically theatrical point of view.

His original musical MISS FAIRFIELD COUNTY: THE PAGEANT: THE MUSICAL is currently being developed for an Off-Broadway production. The show premiered at the New York Theater Festival in December 2025, where it was nominated for Best New Musical and Matthew received a nomination for Best Director. The production received awards for Best Choreography and Best Costume Design, followed by a sold-out concert presentation at 54 Below in April 2026. The musical is now continuing development in New York ahead of its planned 2027 commercial production.

Matthew’s other work includes MIDNIGHT FREQUENCY: A WHODUNIT MURDER MYSTERY MUSICAL, a 1940s-set murder mystery blending live radio, big-band music, and immersive storytelling. His original music has also been presented at 54 Below, where he performed an evening of songs from across his theatrical catalogue in August 2026.

As a performer, Matthew has appeared on stages across the country in musical theatre and concert work, including collaborations with Tony Award nominee and Mean Girls composer Jeff Richmond. His performance background continues to shape his writing, particularly his love of physical comedy, character-driven storytelling, and old-school musical theatre showmanship.

Originally from Ohio, Matthew is a nationally recognized pageant coach who has coached nationally ranked titleholders across multiple states and pageant systems since 2012. His work draws from a lifelong love of classic musical comedy, old-school song-and-dance entertainment, and contemporary pop theatricality, creating stories that are funny, heightened, and deeply human underneath all the sequins.
